We’ve missed you. Have you missed us? Media Releases returns after a bit of an impromptu hiatus to bring you the latest and greatest in new release CDs and DVDs featuring Asian-American artists and actors. So put on your listening slippers and prepare for this week’s Media Releases.

CDs

Fragrant World, Yeasayer

Brooklyn, N.Y., band Yeasayer, a five-member psychedelic band of boys, gained some early traction for this release when they performed a song on Conan O’Brien’s show in May. The group’s latest album features 11 tracks that should keep fans sated, as the band tours parts of the U.S. before heading to the U.K.

Tracer, Teengirl Fantasy

Headed by Logan Takahashi and Nick Weiss, Teengirl Fantasy formed when the two met at Oberlin College right here in Ohio (Dumpling is made in Ohio). The synthesized medleys are sometimes danceable, often easy to get lost in adventures with throw backs to the ’80s. Check it out for something different.

DVDs

The Dictator, Paramount

Sacha Baron Cohen dons a new persona in the form of a dictator with an iron fist. When he finds himself trapped in America, cross-cultural miscommunication ensues. Expect more fish-out-of-water humor from the man who brought you Borat and Bruno.

The Hunger Games, Lions Gate

Young people killing each other in high-tech fashions with weapons of mass destruction in a giant outdoor arena? Sign us up! This isn’t Battle Royale westernized, this is Panem.

Adventure Time: It Came From the Nightosphere & Adventure Time: My Two Favorite People,

Cartoon Network

Adventure Time follows the, well, adventures of unflappable Finn and magical doggy older brother, Jake, as they make their way through the Land of Ooo. Airing on Cartoon Network, this show garnered its cult following by being from the same cut of sassy smart humor as The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack and Daria.
